Kim Nicol, JD, PCC is an executive mindfulness coach who works with kind, diverse leaders in purpose-driven organizations. She describes mindfulness as a quality of attention: the skill of being present, curious and kind, and the way to find the space between stimulus and response. Her style is warm and intuitive, and her approach to being mindful in work and life is practical. She lives in San Francisco.
Kim is the creator, executive producer and host of The New Manager Podcast, which looks at the human side of leadership. She also teaches Communication Strategies for Managers on Maven and teaches on Insight Timer. Her work includes private coaching, team workshops, off-site facilitation and guest speaking.
She holds multiple degrees from Santa Clara University and trained as a coach at UC Davis and Own The Room Coach Academy. Her continuing education includes Trauma Informed Leadership through the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Trauma Informed Care through the Indiana University School of Public Health. She is a PCC-credentialed member of the International Coaching Federation. Kim is a former lawyer. During law school she worked in the Santa Cruz County Public Defender's Office and externed for a U.S. Federal District Court judge in San Jose.
Kim calls her own career squiggly, with a through line of curiosity about people and systems and a drive to see them thrive. She says a series of painful personal events in 2012 made one thing clear: time is temporary, and mindfulness is how we make good use of our time, attention and energy. She first learned meditation through Dina Amsterdam in Marin and Nestor Perez in the East Bay. Her work is also shaped by InnerYoga, dance and functional fitness, meditation and mindfulness practice, and Reiki.
