Art Church - December 20, 2026

Art Church is a monthly spiritual gathering at the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors (CoSM) in Wappingers Falls, New York, where creativity is practiced as devotion. It is led by the visionary artists Alex Grey and Allyson Grey and is open to anyone who wants to draw, paint, journal or write alongside a community, whether or not they think of themselves as an artist. People who cannot travel to the Hudson Valley can take part by Zoom.

What to Expect

The afternoon runs two hours in the Art Lab of the Grey House. It opens with a wisdom drop from Alex and Allyson on the month's theme. A group meditation follows, during which everyone makes art to music. Afterward, CoSM members have the chance to share what they made with the community.

The idea behind it is simple: each person carries a spark of the creative force of the universe, and making art together can open a new way of seeing. The Greys describe the gathering as a place where participants act as Sacred Mirrors for one another, reflecting the transforming power of art in each life.

The day's rhythm at CoSM:

- Noon: CoSM, the Entheon and the Mushroom Cafe open to visitors
- 2:00 PM: registration opens in the Grey House
- 3:00 PM: Art Church begins in the Art Lab
- 5:00 PM: Art Church ends
- 6:00 PM: CoSM closes for the day

About Alex Grey

Alex Grey, born in 1953, is a painter and spiritual teacher whose anatomical visionary art has become a visual language for contemporary mysticism. His layered, translucent figures show skeleton, musculature, organs and energy meridians in a single image, drawing on Western anatomy and Eastern tantric philosophy. He calls these works Sacred Mirrors, paintings meant to aid meditation and self-recognition. His work has reached millions through five books, including three monographs, as well as exhibitions, live painting, a popular TED talk, stage sets, animation and Grammy-winning album art for the band Tool.

About Allyson Grey

Allyson Grey is a painter and social sculptor with an MFA from Tufts University. Her paintings explore three realms she calls Chaos, Order and Secret Writing: the material world, the interconnected realm of energy and light, and the untranslatable language of creative expression. Her abstract canvases use grids, repetition and color gradation to evoke contemplation. She has long worked as an art educator, organization developer and editor, and has been creative and life partner to Alex Grey since they met in art school in 1975. Together they co-founded CoSM.

The Setting

CoSM is a sanctuary of Visionary Art in the Hudson Valley, with the Entheon as its heart center. Full Moon Ceremonies have been held here since December 2003, and more than thirteen hundred members help sustain the place today. The Greys are long-time advocates of cognitive liberty.

The chapel lies about 65 miles north of New York City. Metro North trains leave Grand Central Station hourly and serve the area. Rooms at the Grey House can be reserved for those who wish to stay on site.

Before You Go

Art Church welcomes all levels. No experience with meditation or art-making is required, and the gathering is open to beginners and seasoned artists alike. Bring drawing materials such as colored pencils, pens or watercolors, plus a sketchbook or pad. Journaling and poetic expression are also encouraged, and some materials are available on site.

Onsite space is limited to 85 people, so please reserve a place only if you can attend. Registration opens at 2:00 PM, and guests are encouraged to arrive by 2:45 PM. Admission to the building closes at 3:00 PM, and once the meditation begins, latecomers cannot enter the room. They can follow along by remote viewing in the Grey House Parlor.

Members take part free, and an active membership is required on the day. The Zoom session is recorded and may appear in future promotional material. The gathering is held in English. Meals, overnight accommodation and professional art instruction or critique are not included.
