Self-Kindness and BreakingNegative Dream Cycles

In this teaching, Don Miguel Ruiz distinguishes between authentic kindness—the warm, wordless delivery of the heart—and corrupted kindness, which we use as a weapon against ourselves through guilt, shame, and self-sacrifice. He explores how the negative dream (habitual cycles of self-judgment, gossip, and self-abuse) keeps us trapped in what he calls "sleeping" rather than truly awake. The path forward is not spiritual perfectionism or pedestal-sitting, but a daily practice of being kind to our own hearts, waking up from old dreams without needing external validation, and choosing the colors of life we actually want to live.

What Is Authentic Kindness?

Ruiz opens by describing kindness as energy without the apparatus of storytelling. "It's like looking inside the mirror but without the eyes, without the ears, and without any words," he says. Kindness, in its purest form, is a feeling—comfort, tranquility, tenderness, and love. He uses the image of holding a newborn baby with no agenda, no story, just pure love. This is the natural state of the heart before the mind layers judgment and expectation onto it.

When we close our eyes and feel what Ruiz calls "the dream of kindness," no words are creating the experience. There is only the delivery of the heart, "like the warm blood caressing all the body making it come alive so it can express itself and create the art from the heart." Kindness here is not a moral performance; it is the heart's own vitality expressing itself.

How Do We Corrupt Kindness Into Self-Abuse?

The problem arises when we begin flowing in the river of life and encounter temptations to go against ourselves. Ruiz describes an addiction-like pattern: we want to change our lives, jump to new dreams, but then we use kindness against ourselves through manipulation. We become aware of what we see, what we have tasted, what we know, and the desires we hold—but instead of letting them guide us toward freedom, we create stories that stop us from being ourselves.

This is where self-kindness becomes corrupted into self-sacrifice. "When you begin giving it away something happens," Ruiz explains. "It begins having an expectation. Just because we're kind, it was going to be kind to us." The world does not work that way. And in disappointment, we turn the knife inward.

The mechanism is precise: we create a "beautiful kindness corrupting way" by layering expectation, guilt, and shame over acts of supposed generosity. When we fail to receive kindness back, we feel entitled to withdraw into self-punishment. "We bite, and then after we bite we have all this guilt and shame and give in, sacrifice ourselves because we feel guilt, we feel shame with all this negativity in us."

What Is Self-Abuse and Why Does It Become a Habit?

For Ruiz, self-abuse is not only physical harm. It is the language of internal complaint, of gossip directed at ourselves, of refusing to do anything about our unhappiness while continuing to condemn ourselves for being unhappy. "It's like letting something take over in our kind heart because getting buried and very, very because it's not allowed to be happy."

The programming runs deep: we believe that if we allow ourselves to feel happy, something will go wrong. "If it just feels happy for a little bit you begin saying, 'It's okay, can I do this? Can I express myself?' This is the thing that we have to change in our programming. It's okay to be happy. It's really okay with no story at all."

Ruiz identifies a vicious loop: when we are unkind to ourselves, we give ourselves permission to be unkind to others. "When we are unkind with ourselves that give us the permission to be unkind with everybody else and that becomes our life." We hurt those we love, sacrifice our dreams, feel guilt, and then repeat the cycle because we believe we do not deserve happiness. "That's not spirituality, that is not healing. That is just being enabled by our own self, by our own words, not wanting to go forward, feeling all the fear in creating an island of safety."

What Is the Island of Safety Ruiz Describes?

An island of safety is a prison we build from habit and fear. It is the familiar dream we have always known, the painting we live inside. In traditional terms, we accept life and punish ourselves because we fear God, but Ruiz reframes this entirely. "There's nothing to do to fear God of your life. You have to love life. Fear God cause God is creation. This is creation. You are creation. My brothers and sisters are creation. We all are the most beautiful creation that ever existed."

The island of safety is where we refuse to dream beyond the familiar. We do not need to know what created us in order to show gratitude. "If it's not important, if that it's not important to know what created us, don't you think whatever created us we can just step into our self-being, close our eyes and say thank you?" Gratitude is an act, not a belief system. It is the kindness we deliver through our being when we stop hurting ourselves and start honoring the life force within.

What Does Ruiz Mean by Breaking the Spell of Self-Judgment?

Self-judgment is the spell that keeps us in the negative dream. "How can we grow if we don't let the spell of self-judgment go? How can we grow spiritually if we continue judging ourselves for everything that we do?" Ruiz uses the metaphor of an artist choosing colors. The artist does not get overwhelmed by all available colors. Instead, the artist chooses which colors to use and which to abandon. "Let's use the colors that we want and identify what colors we don't want in life anymore because we're just creating memories at the end of the day."

We create our entire life from these choices. If we have been using colors (habits, stories, reactions) that sacrifice our creative heart, awareness allows us to stop using them. "We don't have to return to that room just to prove a point," Ruiz says. There is no need to prove to the outside world that we are ready to let go. There is no diploma, no external validation required.

What Does Ruiz Mean by Resurrection?

In Ruiz's reframing, resurrection is not dying and returning in another body. It is waking up from a dream in this very life. "That's the resurrection that all the mystery schools, the religions talk about. They don't talk about you know you die and then you come back in another life form, another body. Who cares about that? By just telling kids stories so it doesn't get panicked, so it doesn't have fear."

Resurrection is the moment when an old dream dies and we step into a new one. "How many times have we died—not physically but an old dream has gone away? And when we don't let that dream go away, it just continues hunting us." The obsession with what could have been prevents us from inhabiting what is happening. "What could have been instead of what is happening, what we can do right now, not what we could have done."

Real presence is here, now. Happiness and unhappiness both arise in this moment, not in some promised land we are running toward. "There's no promised land, there's no running away. You cannot run away from yourself from your own creative mind."

How Does Spiritual Ego Differ From Authentic Practice?

Ruiz observes that many teachers and seekers remain trapped in ego even within spiritual frameworks. "There are so many levels of awareness. Many people tell you what they want to live but they don't want to see how they stop themselves because of the ego and the personal importance. I even see great masters continue under search in their quest to be the perfect guru, the perfect teacher because it's easier to go to school than to practice what you have learned."

The ego appropriates spirituality itself—the striving to be the perfect teacher, the perfect meditator, the most enlightened. The school of learning becomes preferable to the school of life, where real transformation happens through living, choosing, and being kind to oneself and others despite imperfection.

For Ruiz, spirituality means enjoying life, not sitting on a pedestal. It means making decisions about which "colors" to use—which habits, which ways of being—and practicing that choice daily. It is not about achieving a final state of perfection but about waking up from the nightmare of self-judgment moment by moment.

Where to Go From Here

The practical application of this teaching is immediate: notice where you use kindness against yourself. Notice where you punish yourself for not being kind enough to others, or where you refuse to be happy because you believe you do not deserve it. Watch the gossip you direct inward. Identify the "colors" (habits, stories, reactions) that sacrifice your creative heart. Then, gently, without fanfare or external validation, choose different colors. Be kind to your own heart today. Let an old dream die without needing to return to it to prove something. And practice being present—not in the island of safety, but in the actual river of life, where happiness is allowed, where you are allowed, where kindness to yourself and others is the deepest form of spiritual practice.

[0:06] good morning

[0:08] good morning my sisters and brothers one

[0:10] of the most beautiful things in life

[0:13] is the act of kindness the act of

[0:16] kindness is just that energy

[0:18] like looking inside of the mirror but

[0:21] without the eyes

[0:22] without the ears and without any words

[0:26] just a feeling of comfort a feeling and

[0:28] tranquility

[0:29] tenderness and love it's like grabbing a

[0:32] boring baby in your arms

[0:34] with no story at all with no agenda at

[0:36] all

[0:37] just a pure love so when you close your

[0:40] eyes

[0:41] and you begin to feel the dream of

[0:43] kindness

[0:44] is because there are no words creating

[0:47] it

[0:47] it's just the delivery of your heart

[0:51] like the warm blood caressing all the

[0:53] body

[0:54] making it come alive so it can express

[0:56] itself

[0:57] and create the art from the heart so

[1:00] when you begin

[1:01] floating in the river of life you begin

[1:04] seeing

[1:04] everything that you begin identifying to

[1:07] deliver your kindness and love

[1:09] and you get all the temptations to go

[1:11] against yourself

[1:13] i remember the temptation when i used to

[1:15] go against myself a hundred percent

[1:17] it was like an addiction like a bad

[1:20] habit

[1:20] it is like you want to change your life

[1:22] you want to jump dreams

[1:25] and you use the kindness against

[1:26] yourself how it is get used

[1:29] well it's self-sacrifice when you begin

[1:31] manipulating yourself with everything

[1:33] that you

[1:33] see everything that you have tasted

[1:35] everything that you you know

[1:37] the desire that you want to be free but

[1:38] you create all these stories that's

[1:40] stopping you

[1:41] from being you so in the stream of

[1:43] addiction

[1:44] this dream of the negative habits we

[1:46] create this beautiful kindness

[1:48] corrupting way and then when we begin

[1:50] giving it away

[1:52] something happens it begins having an

[1:55] expectation

[1:56] just because we're kind it was going to

[1:57] be kind to us no

[2:00] the world that's what it does what we

[2:02] are mastering

[2:03] is to be kind with ourself to not use

[2:06] the things in life that make us

[2:08] irritated and when we get irritated

[2:11] we're like a snake you know we bite and

[2:13] then after we bite we have all this

[2:15] guilt and shame

[2:16] and give in sacrifice ourselves because

[2:20] we feel guilt

[2:21] we feel shame with all this negativity

[2:24] in us then

[2:25] we give in saying i'm guilty i'm not

[2:27] worth for love i'm not aware for my

[2:29] dreams

[2:30] and this is a negative habit that we all

[2:32] create and especially when this becomes

[2:35] being a language of gossip and hatred

[2:38] and the self-abuse and self-abuse what

[2:42] it is

[2:43] to complain about ourselves to complain

[2:46] why we're not happy

[2:47] to complain and not do nothing about it

[2:50] it's like

[2:50] letting something you know take over in

[2:53] our kind heart because getting buried

[2:54] and very very because

[2:56] it's not allowed to be happy and if it

[2:58] just feels happy for a little bit

[3:00] you begin saying it's okay can i do this

[3:02] can i

[3:03] express myself this is the thing that we

[3:05] have to change in our programming

[3:07] it's okay to be happy it's really okay

[3:10] with no story at

[3:11] all there's no hidden agenda to be happy

[3:14] it's just that kindness to oneself and

[3:16] when we begin

[3:17] feeling that kindness to ourself we

[3:19] begin identifying everything that we

[3:22] use in life to be unkind with ourselves

[3:25] because when we are unkind with

[3:27] ourselves that give us the permission to

[3:29] be

[3:29] unkind with everybody else and that

[3:31] becomes our life

[3:32] the moment that we begin having the

[3:34] kindness to our heart

[3:35] is because we want to change our life we

[3:38] want to change the negative dream

[3:40] we don't want to feel guilt and shame

[3:41] anymore and do things that you know

[3:43] irritate us and then we scream then we

[3:46] do negative

[3:46] acts and then from that point on we

[3:48] begin repeating the negative habits

[3:50] again because what

[3:51] we sacrifice ourselves again and that's

[3:54] not spirituality

[3:55] that is not healing that it is just

[3:58] being enabled

[3:59] by our own self by our own words not

[4:02] wanting to go forward

[4:03] feeling all the fear in creating an

[4:05] island of safety

[4:06] an island of safety in the total

[4:08] tradition is where we're just living in

[4:10] a painting we're used to

[4:11] why even dream beyond this we just

[4:14] accept life

[4:14] and just punish ourselves and you know

[4:17] fear god for your life

[4:18] but i tell you there's nothing to do to

[4:21] fear god of your life you have to love

[4:22] life

[4:23] fear god cause god is creation this is

[4:25] creation you are creation

[4:27] my brothers and sisters are creation we

[4:29] all are the most beautiful creation that

[4:31] ever existed

[4:32] and you know what the beautiful thing it

[4:33] is that we can say thank you

[4:35] in our kind heart from within and we did

[4:38] not even have to know what created us

[4:41] because if it's not important

[4:43] if it's that important to know what

[4:44] created us don't you think whatever

[4:47] created us

[4:48] we can just step into our self-being

[4:51] close our eyes and say thank you and

[4:54] when we say thank you it's not with the

[4:56] words that we express

[4:57] is by the act that we let this part be

[5:00] kind

[5:00] to all its being and then wake up and

[5:03] not listen that we used to be encounters

[5:05] of using life

[5:06] and then it's a sleeping dream when we

[5:08] wake up let's make an act of power

[5:10] to be kind with everybody outside of us

[5:13] even if they're not kind to us

[5:15] or to themselves let's break the still

[5:17] in humanity

[5:18] and rise up to the occasion the occasion

[5:21] of delivering the art from the heart

[5:23] kindness is one of the most beautiful

[5:25] things

[5:26] let's break the cycle the cycle of the

[5:29] negative habit

[5:30] of hurting ourselves by hurting the

[5:32] people that we love and when we do

[5:34] that we sacrifice our dreams why because

[5:38] we don't have right to be happy how can

[5:39] we be happy we just commit this awful

[5:41] thing

[5:43] let's break the spell of self-judgment

[5:46] how can we grow if we don't let the

[5:48] spell of self-judgment

[5:50] go how can we grow spiritually if we

[5:52] continue judging ourselves for

[5:54] everything that we do

[5:55] think everything is like the most

[5:57] beautiful thing about the artist

[5:58] is making decisions or what colors to

[6:00] use not get overwhelmed that there are

[6:02] so many colors to use

[6:04] let's use the colors that we want and

[6:06] identify

[6:07] what colors we don't want in life

[6:09] anymore because we're just creating

[6:10] memories at the end of the day

[6:13] could you imagine just create all our

[6:16] life

[6:17] the dream how we used to sacrifice our

[6:20] great

[6:21] deep heart but when we get identifying

[6:25] what sacrifice our creative heart what

[6:27] do we use what colors do we use

[6:29] we don't need to use those colors

[6:30] anymore why because we have awareness

[6:32] and we have a wireless you don't have to

[6:34] return to that room just to prove a

[6:36] point

[6:36] here what i mean we don't have to prove

[6:39] to the outside world

[6:40] that we're ready to let go of a dream

[6:43] there's nothing to prove there's no

[6:44] diploma to have

[6:46] there's no acknowledgement validation

[6:48] from the outside when you wake up

[6:50] from a dream from a nightmare that's the

[6:52] resurrection that all the mystery

[6:54] schools

[6:55] the religions talk about they don't talk

[6:57] about

[6:58] you know you die and then you come back

[7:01] in another life form another body who

[7:03] cares about that

[7:04] by just telling kids stories so it

[7:07] doesn't

[7:08] get panicked so it doesn't have fear so

[7:10] he comes down has a night's sleep

[7:13] it's time to respect ourselves to not

[7:15] live in the superstition because

[7:17] resurrecting in other traditions is

[7:20] resurrecting in the same life

[7:22] like how many times have we died not

[7:25] physically

[7:26] but an old dream has gone away and when

[7:28] we don't let that dream go away it just

[7:30] continues

[7:31] hunting us what could have been instead

[7:34] of what it

[7:35] is happening what we can do right now

[7:38] not what we could have done i was happy

[7:40] over there

[7:41] i was happy over here but does anybody

[7:44] says i'm happy right here

[7:46] because right here is where happiness

[7:48] and unhappiness comes

[7:50] we just stand around there's no promised

[7:52] land

[7:53] there's no running away you cannot run

[7:56] away from yourself from your own

[7:57] creative hab

[7:59] and when you have your own creative mind

[8:01] you notice that you're dreaming all of

[8:03] the time

[8:04] and that brothers and sisters are also

[8:06] dreaming their dream

[8:07] why feeling competition to go with them

[8:10] or try to feel in a higher position than

[8:12] them you know

[8:14] there are so many levels of awareness

[8:16] many people tell you

[8:17] what they want to live but they don't

[8:20] want to see

[8:21] how they stop themselves because of the

[8:23] ego and the personal importance

[8:25] you know i even see great masters

[8:27] continue under search in their quest to

[8:29] be the perfect guru

[8:31] the perfect teacher because it's easier

[8:33] to go to school than to

[8:35] practice what you have learned and the

[8:37] school is the school of life

[8:39] so spirituality for me is to enjoy my

[8:42] life

[8:42] not to have a pedestal not to sit in it

[8:45] you know what i mean

[8:46] is to resurrect in the same life that's

[8:49] why i came to spirituality

[8:50] and there's so many temptations that

[8:52] will take you away from that but

[8:54] the honor it is for you to live in your

[8:55] comfortableness like i don't like to be

[8:57] irritated

[8:58] and scream at my self and the people

[9:00] that i love

[9:01] and then feel guilt and sacrifice

[9:03] whatever i was going to do because i did

[9:05] an act of cruelty

[9:06] and then become enabled you know then it

[9:09] becomes a negative habit and nothing

[9:10] grows nothing changes

[9:12] it's like that meditation of the quack

[9:15] the duck the sacred duck

[9:17] i wanted to learn the secret of life

[9:20] from the

[9:21] master dock and then when i got to the

[9:24] master dock

[9:26] he said to me what you want i want to

[9:28] know the secret of humanity

[9:30] and he began quacking

[9:34] and nothing changed and what does that

[9:37] mean

[9:37] that teaching was that we can talk all

[9:40] we want i want what we're going to do

[9:42] what we're going to do when we're free

[9:43] the change that we're going to do but if

[9:45] we don't act

[9:46] it is just a quacking and nothing

[9:48] changes

[9:50] the moment that we don't crack the

[9:52] moment that we

[9:53] feel the kindness in our heart we feel

[9:57] no excuses not justification just what

[9:59] we really

[10:00] want to do in life and could you imagine

[10:04] being honest with yourself not running

[10:05] away

[10:06] not replacing dreams just waking up

[10:09] inside your life inside your dream

[10:11] and saying what kind of life do i want

[10:14] from right

[10:15] here and to the day that i go home and

[10:18] what is that i do not want

[10:20] is the simplest decision now comes the

[10:23] hard part for many people

[10:25] is to take the act and stick to the plan

[10:28] and be loyal to your own words you know

[10:33] one of the most beautiful thing that i

[10:34] felt in in the

[10:36] story in teaching was my father when he

[10:38] come out

[10:39] of his heart attack he said when he was

[10:42] in coma

[10:43] for those nine weeks that he had this

[10:45] dream that he came out of his body like

[10:48] a little spear

[10:49] and he was broken out from the earth and

[10:51] come into the universe and then all this

[10:53] little spear that was his point of

[10:55] perception

[10:56] landed on this planet and in that planet

[10:58] there were so many people dressed in

[10:59] white

[11:00] waiting for the savior and they had a

[11:02] crown you know they had a

[11:03] sitting chair for the master to come sit

[11:06] down and when he arrived

[11:07] everybody was waving says oh master you

[11:09] have finally

[11:10] come you have finally come to be with us

[11:13] and guide us

[11:14] he sees the whole dream and goes i don't

[11:16] think so

[11:17] i'm just here passing by this is not

[11:20] my dream i don't want to get trapped in

[11:23] that chair

[11:24] in this dream everybody is responsible

[11:26] for themselves and this is the most

[11:29] respectful thing that i can say to

[11:30] everybody here we all have our own life

[11:33] this is not my dream i don't want that

[11:35] person for myself

[11:37] i don't want to share i don't want to

[11:40] people think that i'm better or worse

[11:41] than we all are the same

[11:43] and in that moment he woke up to another

[11:45] dream

[11:46] but the teaching that he gave to me

[11:48] there is that many people

[11:50] may have expecting us what we're going

[11:52] to be in life

[11:53] what we need in life the only person who

[11:57] knows that

[11:58] is the artist that is creating the art

[12:00] and it's you and me

[12:02] you and me are the creators the artists

[12:04] of our own life

[12:06] there's no more people to blame for what

[12:08] we're doing or not doing there's people

[12:11] to say thank you for inspiring us but

[12:14] those people who are inspiring us

[12:15] they're not gonna create our art could

[12:17] you imagine

[12:18] i like this guitar player like okay come

[12:21] come create my art with your

[12:24] talent no he's creating his own art no

[12:27] one owns our

[12:27] art either but together we can play in a

[12:30] band

[12:31] we can take time when it's our turn to

[12:34] share what is in our heart

[12:36] and here's what i'm talking about this

[12:38] week to be kind to your heart

[12:41] to be kind to yourself to give the

[12:43] permission

[12:44] to yourself to let go of what doesn't

[12:46] serve you anymore

[12:47] that's why i talk about resurrection in

[12:49] the same life because we let go of what

[12:51] we think that we needed

[12:53] to be happy what we needed to be in love

[12:56] the only thing we need is to be alive

[12:58] and hello

[13:00] we've been alive for a long time haven't

[13:02] we been stuck in the nightmare by not

[13:05] believing in herself

[13:06] hello you're not alone here we all go

[13:09] through suffering

[13:10] through guilt and shame and we wake up

[13:12] saying no thank you because that is not

[13:14] my dream

[13:15] i don't need to be perfect for you or

[13:17] anybody else

[13:19] the only one i need to be loyal to is

[13:21] for the love of my life

[13:22] because when i'm going to the love of my

[13:24] life i can be loyal to my family

[13:26] and calm my poison and i poison my

[13:28] family not question the loved ones that

[13:30] i love

[13:31] and speaking i begin controlling my

[13:34] irritation

[13:35] because the irritation it is the moment

[13:37] of creation

[13:38] the creation of a nightmare the creation

[13:41] of guilt and shame because when you're

[13:43] irritated

[13:44] you have to poison in your hands to hurt

[13:46] whoever is in your presence and when you

[13:48] begin hurting who's in your presence

[13:50] that is going to get back to you because

[13:52] it's a dream of hurting one another

[13:54] that's the word of the gods

[13:56] the world belief the world of not

[13:59] forgiving and letting go

[14:00] humanity will do what it does its nature

[14:03] that's why i

[14:03] say humbly let go of those judgments

[14:06] let go of that grudge it doesn't serve

[14:09] you anymore what serves you

[14:10] is your kindness to yourself to

[14:13] resurrecting life

[14:14] to resurrect that artist within and to

[14:17] begin

[14:18] being impersonal with yourself

[14:21] because when you're in person with

[14:22] yourself

[14:24] it's like an out-of-body experience it's

[14:27] like you come

[14:27] out of your body you begin seeing

[14:29] yourself without judgments

[14:30] and can you imagine seeing yourself

[14:33] without judgments

[14:34] that you can see it like a mechanic sees

[14:36] an automobile

[14:38] and without trying to corrupt it because

[14:40] it's his own car

[14:43] because he breaks something else he has

[14:44] to come back to his own shop

[14:46] or to her own shop it's time to fix

[14:49] our automobile this it is our vehicle in

[14:53] life

[14:54] let's not hurt it let's not punish it

[14:57] let's not break the wheels

[14:59] let's keep the body

[15:02] with honor let's keep the body with

[15:05] gratitude

[15:06] because this body help us

[15:11] to bring the art from the heart from the

[15:12] infinite to the manifest

[15:14] this is the best way we can serve mother

[15:16] earth

[15:17] by serving our body because our body

[15:21] it is our mother earth because when we

[15:24] wake up dreaming

[15:25] inside our body our mind is this

[15:28] beautiful universe these beautiful

[15:30] worlds

[15:31] and the one driving it is the one who's

[15:34] dreaming

[15:35] and guess what you and me we are the

[15:38] dreamers

[15:39] we are the dreamers dreaming our own

[15:41] dream and then we are like a movie

[15:43] projector

[15:44] whatever we're dreaming from within

[15:46] we're projecting out

[15:47] that's why i repeat when we are unkind

[15:50] to ourselves we're projecting some

[15:52] kindness in life

[15:54] and then little kids watch us do that

[15:56] and they think you know

[15:57] that we're heading into the right

[15:59] direction but we're getting over a cliff

[16:01] that's why it is time to be responsible

[16:06] and take over that you know vehicle

[16:09] and drive it to the dream of love

[16:12] and the dream of love is not destination

[16:15] it's just the point of view

[16:16] how you are driving because we're

[16:19] already there

[16:20] the point of view of where you are

[16:23] walking

[16:24] we already get our destination we are

[16:27] alive

[16:28] we're learning and unlearning we're

[16:30] getting inspired

[16:31] and letting what uninspired of us go

[16:34] so we can resurrect the angel that we

[16:36] are

[16:40] this is one of my favorite symbologies

[16:43] in religious they have in all different

[16:46] forms from

[16:47] angels from artistic they even have it

[16:49] in india in different ways

[16:51] but the one i have here is so you can

[16:54] see

[16:55] the little devil it reminds me of me not

[16:58] because he has long hair

[17:00] it's because this represents my

[17:01] negativity this

[17:03] represents my dream of suffering my

[17:05] victimization my excuses my

[17:07] justification

[17:08] how i corrupt my own word

[17:11] now this also represents me my authentic

[17:14] self

[17:15] when i wake up from the hangover of

[17:17] guilt and shame of the addiction of

[17:19] suffering

[17:20] when i want to have a perfect balance of

[17:22] equilibrium with myself in life

[17:24] to not use words in vain to not begin

[17:28] using poison so i keep myself in check

[17:31] don't you think i feel this negativity

[17:33] in my life

[17:34] i feel it the temptation it is to keep

[17:37] myself

[17:38] very still and tranquil to not believe

[17:41] my own lies

[17:42] this is yoga for me why because this is

[17:45] a yoga pose

[17:46] do you feel don't you think this feels

[17:48] uncomfortable when you're irritated but

[17:50] you're calming yourself down

[17:52] you're breathing you're breathing

[17:55] you're letting go and this moment will

[17:57] be gone because there's a moment that

[17:59] these two will be one online

[18:00] in equilibrium once again

[18:03] [Music]

[18:04] when that happens when you find the

[18:06] equilibrium you find a message because

[18:08] the measure that you did

[18:10] was an art how to calm yourself down so

[18:13] all the religions all the mystery

[18:14] schools for me are

[18:16] ways to figure out how people calm

[18:18] themselves down that's why many people

[18:20] live in blind faith because

[18:21] they're trying to do what somebody else

[18:24] did

[18:24] but we have to find our own way because

[18:27] nobody really knows what's inside

[18:29] this head of ours what negativity exists

[18:32] and you know we all are negativity we

[18:34] don't have to be ashamed of our

[18:35] negativity

[18:36] because that's how we get blackmailed

[18:37] that's how we get you know judge

[18:39] but when you don't blackmail yourself

[18:41] when you don't judge yourself you

[18:42] are free and that's what i mean by the

[18:44] automatic experience you begin

[18:46] seeing yourself from a different point

[18:47] of view but now you know

[18:50] what you're using to serve the love of

[18:53] your life

[18:54] and what you're using to hurt the love

[18:55] of your life there's two things that we

[18:57] have done in life what feels better for

[18:59] you

[19:01] for me this feels better

[19:04] you know one of the greatest gifts that

[19:07] i have

[19:08] is my mother mama coco you know

[19:11] she just loves me in her own world in

[19:13] her own dream

[19:14] and i will always be her cop and that's

[19:17] one of the beautiful things to know

[19:19] that she is a representation of divine

[19:22] mother

[19:22] of the whole picture for me and life is

[19:25] life

[19:26] so how can i thank her for giving me

[19:28] this life

[19:30] well by controlling and giving her son

[19:33] the most beautiful dream

[19:35] and the most beautiful dream is just

[19:36] being my authentic self

[19:38] all the ways that i used to judge myself

[19:40] remove it all the way that i used to

[19:42] make the excuses you know remove it all

[19:45] the ways i used to hurt jose they're not

[19:46] really anymore

[19:47] let me start over that dream is dead i

[19:50] will not use that to hurt myself

[19:52] or to take any thing of excuses that i

[19:55] used to be a certain way because

[19:56] that dream is over let us not bring the

[19:59] death to the new dream

[20:00] let us not bring those old memories and

[20:03] belief to the new dream

[20:04] can we really let those things rest in

[20:07] peace while we are alive

[20:08] the last time i spoke i spoke about the

[20:10] dream that i dreamt that i died

[20:13] well that part of me died and many

[20:15] peoples who know that corpse

[20:17] they will tell me oh this is what hosea

[20:24] and if they come to me to speak to the

[20:25] new me would i believe them

[20:28] of course i will not believe them even

[20:30] though they are

[20:32] speaking half the truth because that's

[20:34] the memory that i

[20:35] did or am in their heads but i'm no

[20:37] longer at that moment because i've

[20:39] changed

[20:40] and it is easy to change that's why i

[20:43] say i'm life

[20:45] you know forget what race i am forget

[20:48] what gender

[20:48] i am i am just life and i'm here just to

[20:52] express

[20:53] my love without any conditions or how

[20:57] it's supposed to be

[20:59] in this how we're all what meant to be

[21:02] too

[21:03] just to express our love to ourself

[21:06] that's why

[21:07] i said earlier when you close your eyes

[21:10] it's about delivering that kindness

[21:12] without thought

[21:14] without hearing anything without even

[21:18] speaking

[21:19] they're just embracing the timeless

[21:23] the timelessness of life as we can feel

[21:26] it

[21:27] like a clock in our body but without

[21:30] words

[21:31] telling us we're still alive to do

[21:34] whatever we want to do in life

[21:36] to start over and let the dream go so be

[21:39] it

[21:40] today let it be the day when a sacred

[21:43] heart communicates to us and we learn to

[21:45] listen

[21:45] by being skeptical of our own negativity

[21:48] and using the kind words

[21:50] that is using to translate a message to

[21:52] ourselves

[21:53] and then we begin to listen as we open

[21:55] our eyes

[21:56] and we begin dreaming consciously

[21:58] whatever we do

[21:59] just know it's about kindness when

[22:01] you're feeling unkind

[22:03] it's not about the words or the stories

[22:05] going on it's an act that's happening

[22:07] with the energy that we are because we

[22:09] all are energy

[22:10] and energy will always find a container

[22:13] look at the holy grail that we have

[22:15] look at your own hands i invite you

[22:17] these hands

[22:19] hold the container or if you fill your

[22:22] chest

[22:23] let the container be felt this body

[22:27] is holding all of our energy now with

[22:30] the gift of the mind

[22:31] that is the translator from the internet

[22:34] to the manifest

[22:35] what are you translating what stories

[22:38] are you

[22:39] feeling all the kindness and putting it

[22:41] into words and giving it to yourself

[22:43] and when you know that you're being

[22:45] unkind is when the mind

[22:47] is not being loyal to the body so i

[22:50] invite you to this training of life

[22:52] because it's a life training like my

[22:54] father says

[22:56] all my life my body was loyal to my mind

[23:00] it's time for my body

[23:04] to be loyal to my mind

[23:07] to be loyal to my body

[23:10] so my body can be loyal to my mind and i

[23:13] will live

[23:15] in a dream of loyalness with thin

[23:17] loyalness

[23:18] not using any excuses out there to

[23:20] sabotage myself but to bring the

[23:23] infinite

[23:24] the infinite love wherever i go and you

[23:26] know when there's infinite love there's

[23:27] infinite kisses

[23:29] when there's infinite kisses you blow

[23:31] the whispers of love going out there

[23:33] and now instead of being the gossip

[23:37] of negativity it will be the

[23:40] opposite of gossip will be the words of

[23:43] love

[23:43] that is the rhythm of the heart being

[23:47] put like seeds

[23:48] wherever they need to be and wherever

[23:50] you are

[23:51] that's where you need to be because

[23:52] that's where you are doing your best

[23:55] sharing the seed of kindness of your

[23:56] heart into this beautiful life this

[23:59] dream

[24:00] that's why father explains in one of his

[24:03] books

[24:04] i love saying this and brother explains

[24:06] it too

[24:07] imagine being the only sober person in a

[24:10] room where everybody is completely drunk

[24:11] with their own kindness they drink so

[24:14] much unkindness

[24:15] that they forget to be kind to

[24:16] themselves and they wake up wake up with

[24:18] a hangover

[24:19] i wish i was kind to myself but they

[24:21] continue doing the same dream

[24:23] but you wake up and your presence is so

[24:26] powerful

[24:27] that you don't need the pedestal or to

[24:29] be the chosen one

[24:30] you just need to be there for you at all

[24:33] times in life

[24:34] because that's how we wake up and the

[24:36] little kids they learn

[24:38] not what we're doing learn how we live

[24:40] so let's show the little ones

[24:42] a whole different way of dreaming the

[24:44] dream without feeling fear to god

[24:46] fear to life sabotaging ourself and our

[24:49] creative heart

[24:50] let's show them the way to be loyal to

[24:52] the heart and to be masters of whatever

[24:54] we create

[24:55] because life

[24:58] is just tenderness you know could you

[25:02] imagine

[25:03] loving a beautiful being like this

[25:06] and then it locks you back it's the best

[25:10] feeling ever when they look up to you

[25:13] when they want to be fed when they want

[25:15] to be love and nourish

[25:17] it's the same thing as the body

[25:21] love the most beautiful dream in this

[25:24] life

[25:25] and it's on our side let's not misuse it

[25:28] let's not corrupt it let's just be

[25:32] human and like the puppies are puppy

[25:36] we are human let's corrupt our program

[25:39] and resurrect because i do believe in

[25:41] resurrection

[25:43] and i believe in resurrection in the

[25:44] same life because we were toddlers

[25:47] we were just these pure little angels

[25:49] then we got hurt

[25:50] then we begin hurting that we were in a

[25:52] bubble the dream of humana the dream of

[25:53] the planet

[25:54] and then something happened to us when

[25:56] we wake up

[25:58] to return to be this authentic love but

[26:00] now we have the awareness of humanity

[26:02] how they go against themselves and how

[26:05] they

[26:05] come back to power the power of love and

[26:08] that's what a yogi is

[26:10] that's what a shaman is a curandera a

[26:12] human of power

[26:13] it's just a a force that contains

[26:17] love like the puppy just feel my puppy

[26:21] no it's just love it doesn't care to be

[26:25] anything else

[26:26] just to love and be loved that's the

[26:28] whole program of our body too

[26:30] that's why the angel is the the mind and

[26:33] the mind is here to take care of heaven

[26:36] it's time to return home

[26:39] dream of kindness oh my loving gratitude

[26:43] i see you next week and thank you for

[26:44] your time like i said always remember

[26:46] your time is precious

[26:51] enjoy

[27:00] amen i'll see you next week thank you

[27:03] again for your time

Ruiz teaches that using kindness against ourselves happens when we attach expectation to our generosity—expecting kindness in return, then turning to guilt and self-punishment when we do not receive it. To stop, become aware of where you direct complaint and gossip inward, and practice being genuinely kind to your own heart without agenda. This means allowing yourself to be happy without needing to prove or apologize for it.
The negative dream is the habitual cycle of self-judgment, self-abuse, guilt, and shame that we live within daily. It is a state of 'sleeping' rather than awakeness, where we repeat patterns of hurting ourselves and others, then feeling guilty, then repeating. Waking up from this dream means recognizing old patterns and choosing not to return to them without needing external validation.
No. Ruiz explicitly warns against spiritual ego, noting that even great masters sometimes get trapped seeking perfectionism as a teacher rather than practicing what they have learned. For Ruiz, spirituality is about enjoying life, making conscious choices, and being kind—not sitting on a pedestal or achieving an external ideal.
Resurrection is not dying and returning in another body. It is waking up from an old dream—a habitual pattern or belief—in this very life. Every time we let go of a dream that no longer serves us and step into a new way of being, we are resurrecting. The real practice is being present now, not chasing a promised land.
We create an island of safety—the familiar, habitual dream—out of fear and the belief that we are not allowed to be happy or dream beyond what is familiar. We leave it by practicing kindness to ourselves, allowing happiness without guilt, identifying the 'colors' (habits and stories) we no longer want to use, and waking up to the actual river of life where growth happens.
Yes. Ruiz says we do not need to know what created us to feel gratitude. We can close our eyes and say thank you by the act of our presence—by being kind to ourselves and others, by honoring the life force within us. Gratitude is expressed through how we live, not through belief systems.
We are programmed from childhood to believe that happiness requires justification or that allowing ourselves to be happy will bring punishment. When we allow ourselves happiness, we immediately question: 'Is this okay? Can I express myself?' This internal policing becomes automatic. Breaking the habit requires reprogramming the belief that it is genuinely okay to be happy with no story.
