Lisa McCrohan, MA, LCSW-C, SEP, is a licensed psychotherapist, personal coach, writer and speaker. She describes her work as an integrative, whole-person approach that weaves together psychology, nervous system and brain science, meditation, spirituality and somatic practices. As a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, she offers body-centered therapy for stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss and grief, parenting and relationships. Her coaching supports people seeking clarity, purpose and authentic leadership.
Her guiding belief is that delight is our true nature, compassion heals, and community nourishes the soul. Her mantra is "Follow what delights your heart and you'll inspire the world," and she describes delight as a soft joy, a sacred hum of aliveness that arises through pausing, connecting and compassionate presence. According to her Insight Timer teacher page, she has integrated meditation, poetry and somatic movement into her work for over 25 years, and her writings and guided poetic experiences connect people to the sacred in the ordinary.
Lisa holds master's degrees in Clinical Social Work and Pastoral Ministry from Boston College, along with training and certifications in Somatic Experiencing, trauma healing, nervous system regulation, mindfulness, Eastern medicine and meditation. In her twenties she lived and worked in Guatemala and El Salvador for over two years, at an orphanage and a human rights NGO, an experience she says shapes all she does. She later taught mind-body well-being and authentic leadership at Georgetown University.
She is the author of Gems of Delight, published in 2017, and her writing has appeared on Upworthy, Georgetown University's GUWellness, Motherly, the Gottman Institute and NBC News. She lives in Maryland with her family, with the mountains outside her back door.
Worth Knowing
Lisa McCrohan, MA, LCSW-C, SEP, is a licensed psychotherapist, personal coach, writer and speaker based in Maryland, where she lives with her family with the mountains outside her back door. Her distinctive position is that she is a Somatic Experiencing practitioner who also writes poetry and leads meditation, so body-centered clinical work and contemplative practice share one practice rather than sitting in separate lanes. Students and listeners tend to follow her for the central idea behind her work: that delight is our true nature, which she describes as a soft joy and a sacred hum of aliveness arising through pausing, connecting and compassionate presence. Her Insight Timer teacher page places her integration of meditation, poetry and somatic movement at over 25 years. Her clinical credentials matter for people dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, loss and grief, while her poetry draws readers who find purely clinical language too cold. The tradeoff is that someone looking for a mystical or scholarly teacher may find the therapy vocabulary more present than expected.
